Oh Seville I can still remember the bright orange trees that lingered above us as we entered the glowing town of yours.
I’m so happy that we decided to add Spain to our Portugal trip since we did not add Fargo to the end of our Portugal trip we decided to start with Seville and it did not disappoint.
Lets start with some history and fun facts as to why Seville sounds like and interesting ass to your travel line up. Well, it’s the birthplace of quite a few fabulous things starting with flamenco and tapas. Does that not already sound like the perfect date night. Tapas are one of my favorite types of restaurants/cuisines because I love to share with other people in order to try more things! My husband will say I like to share until I fall in love with one dish and then I may be hoarding the plate closer to me! Tapas are derived from the Spanish term ‘to cover’ or ‘top’, it all started when the local drinkers of Seville used to cover the tops of their glasses between sips. As the trend continued the snack situation increased and took the forefront over their typical sherry drink and the tapa way of life was born. Pescado frito, or fried fish, is one of the most traditional tapas in Seville. In my next post I will take you on my tapas tour through Seville so you know my favorites throughout the city.
Its one of the sunniest places with only 80 days of rain on average a year! So if you gravitate towards sunshine like my husband and I this will be your jam! The swaying trees of beautiful oranges help but a smile on your face as well! (it feels like home as we both met at Syracuse University and the mascot is an orange. Yes! an orange)
Seville is capital of bullfighting in Spain. And yes, I went to a match but did not make it through the whole event. Let me just say I didn’t do my research into bull fighting and was quite surprised on the overall tactics and goals of this ‘sport’. Nevertheless, Seville is the originator!
And if you are a movie buff you might want to come check out where your favorite scenes were filled like ‘Kingdom of Dorne’ from Game of Thrones and epic Plaza de Espana as part of the film Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the clones.
What was comforting about Seville is that it is one of the only places that I felt safe upon arrival and surprisingly that was around 2 AM. (Yes, that’s me above at 2am searching for a store without a care in the world, moon shining at me) You would think at that time it will be dark in a little bit scary but it wasn’t at all! We immediately got an outfit out of our bag went down the street to a small place for tapas and proceeded to make our first couple stops as we normally do when we travel. First the grocery store to get our essentials water, snacks, chocolate, the things you just need to have at any given time!
Seville was the first city where we really realized that we had a love for much smaller towns within the countries of Europe versus the big cities. Usually many travelers start with Barcelona as their first city in Spain as did we followed by Madrid accidentally or if you’d like to call it a last-minute which you can read my post on here.
So we start at Elle Como which is a very quick walk from our beautiful hotel we had some tapas there as it was late at night before it closed
Our go to spot in the morning for breakfast was love Horno I Artesano. We loved this place so much we continued to come back day after day they have the greatest pastry options so many savory and sweet plus their lattes were delicious and were lovely presented with a heart!
Our hotel was only few blocks from this lovey square. Did I mention how much we loved our boutique hotel?!x
One morning we woke up to surprise that the whole town was I the streets cheering! We were unsure as to what was happening but could tell it was a calm celebration. It was the precessional of the virgin mary called Salida procesional de la Virgen de la Alegría. It was glorious to see all the families line up on the side of the streets to pay tribute. Dressed in their Sunday best with the sun shining made this family oriented town seem down to earth and welcoming.
